Il record Europeo relativo alle dimensioni dei chicchi di grandine è stato superato due volte in Italia nel corso della serie di temporali severi che hanno interessato in particolare il nord-est del paese nel mese di Luglio 2023. Il record è stato superato una prima volta il 19 Luglio a Carmignano di Brenta (PD), dove è stato registrato un chicco delle dimensioni di 16 cm. Il record è durato solo 5 giorni, infatti, nel corso dei temporali del 24 Luglio, ad Azzano Decimo (PN) si è registrato un chicco di 19 cm, confermato dagli esperti dell’European Severe Storm Laboratory, con il report comprensivo di immagini allegato. Tali dimensioni avvicinano il nuovo record Europeo al record mondiale, datato 2010, con un chicco di 20.3 cm registrato a Vivian, South Dakota.

Il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile, Ambientale e Meccanica dell’Università di Trento bandisce una posizione di dottorato sul tema”Investigating the role of local and mesoscale circulations in the surface energy balance closure over mountain areas” (borsa A1 all’interno del bando della scuola di dottorato). Lo stuente di dottorato lavorerà nell’ambito del progetto “INTERFACE – Investigating the surface energy balance over mountain areas”. Gli obbiettivi del progetto sono i) quantificare la non chiusura del bilancio energetico superficiale in diversi siti alpini caratterizzati da differente caratteristiche orografiche e di uso del suolo, ii) determinare la relazione tra la non chiusura del bilancio energetico superficiale e le caratteristiche orografiche e di uso del suolo dei siti, iii) quantificare il ruolo dell’avvezione causata da circolazioni locali e alla mesoscala nella non chiusura del bilancio energetico superficiale presso diversi siti alpini. La posizione di dottorato è finanziata dall’Euregio Science Fund e dall’Università di Trento ed è una collaborazione tra l’Università di Trento, l’Università di Innsbruck ed Eurach Research. Lo studente di dottorato lavorerà in stretto contatto con i membri del Gruppo di Fisica dell’Atmosfera dell’Università di Trento e con gli altri partner di progetto, nell’ambito del programma di ricerca internazionale TEAMx.
