Our Division of Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC Division) is considering the possibility to hire a talented and proactive Post Degree candidate to support CMCC research activities. The contract will be jointly funded by CMCC and the HPC Training and Research for Earth Sciences (HPC-TRES) program.

The job location is CMCC Headquarters in Lecce, Italy.

We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:

  • M.Sc. degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent fields;
  • 2+ years’ experience in scientific software development;
  • Excellent knowledge of C programming language;
  • Excellent knowledge of Python programming language;
  • Good knowledge of parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP libraries);
  • Good knowledge of Python scientific libraries (numpy, scipy, pandas);
  • Good knowledge of Git;
  • Good working experience with Linux environment;
  • Good knowledge of both written and spoken English language.

Additional preferred experience:

  • Good knowledge of NETCDF/GRIB data formats and corresponding tools;
  • (NCO, CDO), and Python libraries (xarray, iris, cartopy);
  • Experience with Jupyter notebooks;
  • Good knowledge of database systems;
  • Experience with HPC systems.

We offer the opportunity to join our team through a temporary contract of n° 12 months starting from February 2023, with the possibility of contract extension based on performance, results achieved and new project opportunities.

Our Division of Climate Simulation and Prediction (CSP) is looking for a new position of Junior Scientist, responsible to run CMCC climate simulations at the global scale and to improve climate science in the detection of Extreme Events (EE), including tropical cyclones, heatwaves (also marine heatwaves) as part of the activities of the CLINT and BLUADAPT EU projects. This is consistent with CSP activity as provider of climate projections and  EE analyses, useful for impacts studies, such as the detection of Extreme Events by imposing Machine Learning approaches to existing detection techniques/indices, in order to expand current knowledge on the complex relationships between EE and large-scale fields. Subseasonal to seasonal forecasts and long-term (centennial) climate projections are considered as time horizons.

The job location is CMCC CSP division in Bologna, Italy.

We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:

  • a PhD in scientific disciplines related to climate dynamics, possibly dealing with numerical modelling and/or extreme events;
  • minimum of 2 years working experience after the PhD;
  • very good knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems;
  • advanced skills in programming language (i.e Python and Fortran);
  • very good knowledge of the English language;
  • previous experience in climate modelling and handling of huge climate data-sets;
  • proven publication track record, will be particularly valued.

Our Division of Ocean Predictions and Applications (OPA) is looking for a new position of Ocean Data manager, responsible for the management of oceanographic and atmospheric data to support both research and operational activities of the OPA and ODA divisions

Our Division of Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC) is looking to hire one talented, motivated and proactive DevOps Engineer whose main responsibilities will be:

  • Deployment, maintenance and monitoring of CMCC Data Management and Analysis Services using DevOps practices;
  • Implementation of various development, testing and automation tools to improve the deployment, the robustness and availability of CMCC Data Services.

We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent fields;
  • 5+ years of experience using DevOps tools and technologies;

Il CMCC sta prendendo in considerazione il reclutamento di due persone per la gestione dei progetti e della documentazione scientifica.

E’ richiesta una laurea magistrale in Ingegneria, Oceanografia, Scienze ambientali o altre discipline affini, la buona conoscenza dell’inglese, e la capacità di gestire i progetti e di produrre documentazione scientifica.
